The Director of Educational & Production Services (E&PS) is a senior level leadership position within Radio Television Services (RTVS).  E&PS is a specialized, IU client-based, media production and distribution unit.  The director will lead E&PS, with primary responsibilities that include strategic planning, budgeting, supervision of large production staff, and client relationships.

This position is a production and managerial lead responsible for design and implementation of all client-based media and projects. It entails a high level of complexity and influence on others by interacting with numerous constituents internally and externally, including many leaders from our IU units. The position is directly responsible for the organization and execution of production services for IU clients, like IU athletics and the Office of Ceremonies.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Leads all marketing and client relationships for E&PS.
  • Designs and develops university-wide video, broadcast, event, and multi-media initiatives.
  • Collaborates with other broadcast entities, universities, schools, departments, deans, faculty and staff to deliver emerging technology solutions for client production and distributed on content.
  • Works directly with broadcasters, producers, faculty, staff, and administrators to understand their needs; applies research and broadcast standard methodologies and data analysis to develop strategic plans through collaboration with management, senior video engineers, producers, UITS, and other subject matter experts.
  • Responsible for leading and ensuring successful delivery of video and media initiatives, including video project delivery, video asset management, business analytics, web analytics, website product delivery, workflow improvement, and the management supervision of all E&PS productions and projects.
  • Coordinates client sales and service for E&PS, to ensure quality service, maximize revenue, while being of great value to IU.
  • Oversees the scheduling of all client work.
  • Is responsible for making sure the E&PS unit is in compliance with all IU and RTVS standards and operating procedures.
  • The position will be key member of the Executive Director’s Leadership team.

General Responsibilities

  • Directs operations for technical aspects of the radio, television, and/or cinema broadcasting function for the university.
  • Hires, trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, sets goals and objectives, determines staffing needs, and directs the work of lower-level Broadcast Operations Leaders. Technical Specialists, Broadcast Technicians, and/or Audio/Visual Technicians.
  • Determines equipment needs for radio, television, and/or cinema facilities, including infrastructure, hardware/software, training, operations, policy, and internet streaming and webcasting; plans, purchases, and oversees installation and maintenance of radio, television, and/or cinema equipment and software.
  • Develops and implements processes, standards, and policies that impact broadcasting and production technology and equipment, while remaining compliant with FCC and other applicable regulations.
  • Research industry trends and best practices, explores new and existing technology and equipment, and makes strategic recommendations to achieve long-term broadcasting and production goals.
  • Administers capital equipment budget, including solicitation and coordination of requests, needs assessment, and final determination of specifications; initiates equipment grant application process and administration of awarded grants including allocation and reporting.
  • Coordinates and/or troubleshoots signal transmission with cable and satellite services providers to align technical systems, scheduling, and procedures.


Requirements

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in broadcast, electrical, or electronics engineering; telecommunications management, IT, or related field

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, telecommunications, or another related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 4 years of technical experience in public broadcasting, audio/video/IP production, Engineer in Charge, systems design, or related field
  • 1 year of management experience in relevant field

Preferred

  • 5 years of media production experience with 3 years of managing personnel/large scale projects and leading client relationships
